Students in Mr. Warner’s 8th grade science class are learning about the law of conservation of matter. After carefully measuring all of the ingredients (ice, water, and lemonade mix) students only lost 15 grams of matter in making their lemonade. Students made claims about why these grams were lost (powder stuck to container, overestimated some measurements, etc). Students also noticed how scales don’t always agree on measurements, which can make experiments like this more difficult to perform.
